A wood- frame, two-story folk Victorian farmhouse named Woodlands was built in the late 1800s on Old Woodlands Road adjacent to the Hampton Ridge subdivision. That home is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Residents of the Hamptons-Old Woodlands often say they live “behind the VA,” since the neighborhood is located off Garners Ferry Road near the Veterans Administration Hospital and the USC School of Medicine. It’s also close to Fort Jackson and easily accessible from Interstate 77, the highway that runs from Columbia to Charlotte.
