LAKE
KATHERINE
neighborhood
The Lake Katherine neighborhood offers the chance for waterfront living – in the middle of South Carolina’s capital city. The neighborhood that was once home to weekend cottages in the early 1900s is now a highly sought-after, convenient lakeside community.
Large houses surround the in-town private lake, giving a vacation-feel to day-to-day living for the families, professionals and empty-nesters lucky enough to live there. The neighborhood is close to Beltline Boulevard, Fort Jackson, Forest Acres and Columbia’s Heathwood neighborhood, and it takes just a few minutes to drive to downtown Columbia and the University of South Carolina.
LAKE KATHERINE
neighborhood
Located on the edge of the University of South Carolina campus and close to downtown Columbia, Hollywood-Rose Hill offers a neighborhood with a historic feel and friendly vibe with all the downtown amenities nearby.
The neighborhood was founded in 1914 and is dominated by single-family homes built in the early years of the 20th century— bungalows, foursquares and cottages. Some of the homes are Aladdin Company kit homes, shipped by railroad and assembled in Columbia in the 1920s, while others were designed by one of Columbia’s best-known architects of the time.
A large number of university professors, state employees, lawyers, architects, bankers, teachers, and artists call Hollywood-Rose Hill home, and many residents have lived in this highly sought- after neighborhood for decades.
RECREATION & PARKS
Many of the lakefront homes have small private docks, a perfect spot to launch a canoe or johnboat, or to sit, relax and enjoy a spectacular South Carolina sunset.
The lake is a popular spot for birdwatching, with great blue herons and egrets among the many birds soaring above or wading in the water. The neighborhood is filled with mature pine trees, magnolias, and oaks, and the yards are well maintained. Speed bumps slow traffic on the main thoroughfares, helping to make it a safe neighborhood for children riding bicycles and walkers and joggers enjoying the outdoors.
