RECREATION & PARKS

As a golf course community, Golden Hills is home to an 18-hole course that was designed by noted golf architect Ron Garl and has undergone substantial renovations and upgrades in the past decade. There is also a driving range, chipping area and putting green. The neighborhood also features four lighted tennis courts, an outdoor Junior Olympic competition pool and a children’s wading pool.

The neighborhood is close to Lake Murray, a massive freshwater lake that is popular with boaters, swimmers, paddleboarders, water skiers, bird watchers and anglers. In downtown Lexington, you’ll find then renovated Virginia Hylton Park, with a walking trail, two playgrounds, including one for special needs children, picnic shelters, gardens, grills and an overlook at Twelve Mile Creek.

Community events and concerts are held at the 900-seat outdoor Icehouse Amphitheater in downtown Lexington. On Saturday mornings, the amphitheater parking lot is home to a busy farmers market.

what’s in a name

Golden Hills takes its name from the land’s former occupant, the Golden Glow Dairy Farm. The dairy’s slogan —  “as good as the best and better than the rest” — was adopted and is still used by the owners and staff at Golden Hills.

FUN FACT

Golden Hills was originally part of a plantation in the early 1800s. When John Faye Berry purchased the dairy farm and decided to build a golf course, trees that were removed to make room for the course were eventually used to help build the clubhouse.
