‘Flip & Give’ Community Renovation Generates $100,000
Wrapping up a community-driven house flip a year in the making, the ‘Flip & Give’ home in Columbia’s Shandon neighborhood has sold. A project from Columbia Real Estate group The Moore Company, Flip & Give put design choices in the hands of internet voters, who were also able to nominate their favorite charities to receive a share of the net profits from the home’s sale.
“From beginning to end, this has been an overwhelming experience,” said Graeme Moore, owner of the Moore Company. “From the people at home who followed along and made the choices, to the businesses who came forward and graciously contributed their time, talents and materials, the heart of the community has been on display.”
Following a nomination process, five Midlands charities were selected for an online vote to determine who would receive the largest donation. The groups finished in the following order, and will receive the corresponding amount of the total net profit:
1. Achieve Columbia – $50,000
2. The Midlands Fatherhood Coalition – $25,000
3. The Womens’ Shelter – $12,500
4. The Therapy Place – $7,500
5. Camp Cole – $5,000
The Shandon bungalow originally featured 1,668 square feet, 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Now renovated, the home boasts 2,866 square feet, with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. During the renovation, online voters made selections that ran the gamut: from a master bathroom layout, plumbing fixtures and tile, to exterior paint colors, front door style and others. Nearly a dozen local vendors assisted with donated or discounted labor and materials so that the total donation amount would go up.
“We’ve been fortunate,” said general contractor Harper Krantz, owner of S2K Group, Inc. “We knew we had a lot of great vendors and partners in the Midlands construction community, but they’ve stepped up in a big way here. The generosity has been tremendous.”
The Moore Company closed on the house on Monday, June 2nd.
